Eurovision Union’s Chart Toppers #1

Throughout 2017, Eurovision Union was dedicated in bringing you Weekly Playlists with new music from Eurovision and National Final stars, new and old, as well as stars we’d love to see at Eurovision one day! We made so many musical discoveries, and through 2018, we want to share with you which songs we’ve been loving! Some songs will come and go, and some will stick around – here are our Eurovision Union Chart Toppers!

1. Ulay Nedaber – Nadav Guedj

The late 2017 release very quickly became a huge favourite, and further proof that Nadav Guedj really can’t put a foot wrong. Although his previous songs have also been favourites of ours, this new song is really the cherry on top. More please!

2. Aji Aji – Basim

There’s something intoxicating about the Danish-Middle Eastern fusion in Basim’s new tracks, and this song has proven to be a firm favourite in our playlists. Couldn’t be any catchier if it tried, and we could easily fall in love with a full album of music just like this!

3. Chosen – Måneskin

Although finishing 2nd in Italy’s latest season of the X Factor, this young band are our winners, and their post X-Factor release has been not only a favourite of ours, but also across Italy. With Damiano’s unique vocals and strong stage presence, this band has a big future.

4. Tequila & Lemon – Elena Riskeska

The remix of this track far from caught our attention, but the later release of the ‘original’ song Tequila and Lemon has become our latest earworm. The Balkan undertones of this song give this song the uniqueness to remain in our Top 5!

5. Perdonami – Salmo

It was a new rap discovery for us while holidaying in Italy, and immediately caught our attention. It’s a short song, but short and sweet. It’s a bit hard hitting, a bit brutal in sound, but the continuous melody through the short 2 minutes and 15 seconds of song has us coming back for more.

6. Stavo Pensando a Te – Fabri Fibra ft. Tiziano Ferro

Rap and Pop superpowers combine on this massive hit, with Fabri Fibra creating a hugely popular radio friendly rap tune, and employing one of Italy’s biggest pop stars Tiziano Ferro to add his iconic voice to the track. At first, the track sans Tiziano was our firm favourite over the newest collaboration, but we’ve since grown to the duo.

7. The One (I Need You) – Kristian Kostov

Since discovering Kristian Kostov earlier in 2017, we’ve been anticipating some big pop tracks to be released from the young star, and it doesn’t get much better than this. It’s been a huge hit with fans, and it’s easy to see why. We need more!

8. Buona Fortuna – Benji & Fede

Italy’s power duo Benji & Fede once again dominated radio airtime with their newest release Buona Fortuna. The moody pop song couldn’t be further from the style of their collaboration with Annalisa earlier in 2017, but both songs proving their place in the pop scene.

9. Sconosciuti di una vita – Fedez & J-AX

Their collaboration Vorrei ma non Posto was our Summer hit of 2016, and now J-AX and Fedez are unstoppable with a complete album together, featuring songs as catchy as this tune. The pop-rap mix is popular amongst fans, and popular with us!

10. Guersace – GuE Pequeno

Another Italian discovery, this song has one of the catchiest choruses of the songs in this weeks’ Chart Toppers, and although having never followed Gue Pequeno previously, we’re sure to pay attention to him now!

11. Comme Ci Comme Ça – Basim

Basim makes it to our Chart Toppers twice this fortnight, with his 2017 release Comme Ci Comme Ça also hitting the spot. Although similar to Aji Aji, we’re totally in love with both songs. That middle eastern beat gets us going every time!

12. Linda – Emis Killa

Italian rapper Emis Killa teased us with a shotgun wedding on Instagram, but instead of a wedding, we got Linda, the latest single from the rap artist. The Spanish style of the song give it a unique flair that we love to love, and we suspect it could be a favourite for a while to come!

13. It Ain’t Easy – LIAMOO

Out of the 2018 Melodifestivalen participants, it’s LIAMOO who’s getting us most excited, especially considering it’s songs like these that he has been releasing recently. If his Melfest song is this good, count us in for the LIAMOO fan club.

14. Poetica – Cesare Cremonini

A Newcomer to us, Cesare Cremonini is quickly becoming one of the artists we’d love to see represent Italy at Eurovision. We could just imagine this song on the Eurovision stage, dazzling audiences like Raphael Gualazzi did back in 2011. It’s an understated but classic song that we think we’ll be loving for weeks to come.

15. You Got Me Girl – Kristian Kostov

After a bit of a break, we’re back on the You Got Me Girl bandwagon, and we don’t think we’ll be getting off anytime soon. This song is now released in 3 languages, but it’s the English that’s stayed in our head for all this time.

16. Se Parlassero di noi – RIKI

The Amici Alumni is making his place in the Italian music scene with this moody pop ballad Se Parlassero di noi. It’s yet another song we could have imagined at Eurovision with the big chorus and bridge, but it can only be a distant dream!

17. Onde (Sondr Remix) – Marco Mengoni

Although Marco Mengoni’s latest release is the duet with Giorgia, it is his summer hit Onde (sondr remix) that has remained in our periphery. It’s the perfect song to get us through the hot Australian summer, and a perfect reminder of how good Marco Mengoni is with catchy pop songs!

18. Suburbia – Kilian & Jo ft Erik Rapp

We were late to the Suburbia train, but we’re catching up on lost time by continuously obsessing over this song. For the last 6 months or more, we’ve been listening to this song on and off – but more on than off! I don’t think this song will ever get old!

19. Non Era Vero – Emis Killa

Another rap guilty pleasure from Emis Killa on this week’s Chart Toppers, and it always seems to flip between both this song and his other catchy single Cult. This week, it’s Non Era Vero that’s been on our playlist this fortnight!

20. Cenere – Clementino

It’s been a firm favourite since Clementino’s album release back in March 2017, and for us, the stand out song of the album Vulcano. The song has a beautiful melody backed by a more subtle beat from the Sanremo star, who we know for his catchy, upbeat style. The sensitivity works well for him in small doses!
